Kabanza and Janvier came to the U.S. from Congo, though they both grew up in Uganda. They arrived in Alabama in January of 2020 and Kabanza’s extended family moved away in 2021, but the couple chose to stay in Mobile with their five children because of the peace and amiability provided by the local community.
